Stretching Colors

Have you ever wondered if purple markers were created using purely purple? Have you ever seen colors change as they stretch? During the past week, for Science, our pre-kinder class got to see first hand how different secondary colors were created.

First, they marked the tissue paper with different secondary colored markers.

They were careful to separate the colors so that they do not run into each other.

These papers were carefully rolled up at placed on a tray filled with shallow water.

Soon, the colors took off! Stretching into different primary colors.

The children quickly recorded the changes on their paper. See the changes!

A quick note.
These science observation notes that students take will be sent home once every three months. They will be created into a science notebook.

Meet Jay

Meet our new school pet, Jay.
Jay came to us two weeks ago in a little plastic cup.
For our before dinner activity, we came up with possible names for our new, blue fish.
We had so many great names! But in the end, because the fish was blue, we decided to name it Jay.

Welcome to Rainbow Pre-School, Jay!

Squares, Circles, and Faces

Last week, the children in Thao teacher's class worked with circle and square shapes in creating their faces. Students have been working on shapes and facial features, so this was a great way in reviewing what they learned...

First, they reviewed where the eyes, nose, and mouth went on the body. Then they chose either circle or square shapes to represent each facial features.
(He's re-gluing his nose!)

Their shirts needed to be decorated with various sizes of circles, squares, and stickers!

Then they went on in identifying large body parts like arms and legs. Shapes were chosen to
represent these too.

Lastly, they glued hair to the back and their shapely person was done!
See how proud they are of their finished product! Cheese!

Finger Painting and Play Time

Earlier this week, our two year old class finger-painted an elephant gray. (We put painting shirts over their clothes so that their clothes will not get dirty.)

At first, Jocelyn was not happy with getting her fingers dirty.

But soon she was into the painting as much as our other toddlers.
Have you seen the final product?

CARPET PLAY!
Have you seen how talented our Justin was when building with blocks?
The look of concentration.
Daniel and Justin working together... Higher! Higher!

Lining up the animals... Leopard. Roar!
My nose... Elephant's nose

Science and First Post

Welcome to our first post! For the past month, we've had some trouble with our camera... So after much frustrations, we had to resort to using our cell phones for these pictures. So please excuse the low quality in these photos.

First,
This week's Science was about apples.

We started with observation.
Thao teacher brought three different kinds of apples: Green, Yellow, and Red.
The students first looked and identified the different colors. They then drew these observations onto their paper. (These papers are collected and later on will be turned into a science notebook.)
Then, the teacher carefully cut each apple in half.
The students first took note on what color the inside of the apple was, then the teach dug out the seed for the students to look at. They were encouraged to describe the seed's color, and size. You would be surprised at the observations! For the Granny Apple's seed (the green apple), a student said it was yellow but brown on the top. Another said that the Red Apple's seeds were a much darker brown than the Yellow Apple's seed.
The students then drew these observations on their paper, underneath their first pictures.

They paid close attention to the color and some even chose to mix colors to get their apple observations as close to the real apple as possible.

Afterwards, it was tasting time!

Some reaction to the Red Apple:
It's Good!

Yellow Apple:
Would you like to try some?

Granny Apple:
Hmmm...
So Sour!

The science groups were divided into two. One group does Science on Wednesday and the other does it on Friday. Please ask Thao teacher for the exact date.

Tomorrow's I will upload: Finger Painting
